With the introduction of licensed facilitators (affiliated professionals) in Oregon and Colorado, there are now professionals able to work in an “above ground” setting who provide services at licensed establishments under state regulation. Unaffiliated professionals work in less regulated, underground, settings with more leeway in their work.
No matter where you are within this spectrum or even identify with any of these groups, positive mental health outcomes for the client/seeker are important for all of us.
Our resources are designed to make your role easier.
Designed by seekers, psychedelic professionals (PP), and clinical professionals to help educate and empower you in determining if and how to utilize psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT) best practices into your existing practice.
PATA’s model (link to the model page) shows how PPs play a vital role in a client’s PAT experience without expensive training.
FACT: Understanding your scope of practice and staying within your knowledge base can help your clients achieve their best results.

Psilocybin-assisted therapy, AKA mushroom therapy and psilocybin therapy, is centered around mental health therapy conducted in a collaborative approach with the client’s/seeker’s LMHP who manages the mental health integration and long term needs.
Our model describes how clients can achieve the best results by working with psychedelic professionals who collaborate with LMHPs. By honoring and recognizing the role of PPs, LMHPs can legally and ethically participate in PAT anywhere thus increasing client outcomes and the need for PPs.
FACT: Most long-term change can be promoted in the post-psilocybin integration session(s) led by experienced therapists knowledgeable about PAT.

A Simple Approach
One of the main challenges we hear from potential seekers is believing that their therapist is also administering the substances and managing the session.
Seekers also struggle with finding a LMHP and PP team that will collaborate around their needs and concerns.
As our model shows, The PP are who bridge the clients needs with the session’ goals. LMHPs don't need to be involved in the actual experience, most don’t have the knowledge and experience in managing the session.
FACT: With Oregon now offering their Psilocybin Services program for adult-supported use, a legal option is available for psilocybin use. However, due to the cost and need for transportation, unaffiliated professionals who are knowledgeable with supporting mental health goals within their scope-of-practice are becoming more vital.
Principle of Reducing Harm
The term harm-reduction has become a catch all phrase with a clear definition only applicable to licensed clinicians.approach. For other professionals, we believe using mental health informed principles of reducing harm is more applicable.
By using these principles, all professionals can practice a common approach that focuses on the seekers mental health needs while staying within everyone’s scope-of-practice.
Our resources and tools are designed around mental health and psychedelic-assisted therapy best practices.
Definitions and terms matter
We often see LMHPs are concerned about the terms preparation and set & setting, for example. These terms are used more traditionally in relation to the physical and logistical aspects of the experience to prevent a physically uncomfortable or "bad" experience.
The same terms for LMHPs are centered on the consumer/client being mentally prepared for a mind-altering experience so their post-session integration with their therapist is the most beneficial for their mental health goals. View our definitions page for more information.

Information available for your clients
We offer free resources to seekers that are available for you to give your clients. These are designed to take some of the burdens off of you, the therapist, by allowing your clients to educate and empower themselves in deciding if PAT is right for them.
Our seeker-focused resources (link to seeker page) can help them determine if they should have an LMHP involved based on their goals and educate them on the value therapists bring to achieving mental health goals and what roles everyone has in the PAT process.
This allows you to focus on your skills and knowledge.
