JaDee (1).jpg

Ph.D., Researcher

JaDee Y. Carathers (She/They)

JaDee is a sociologist specializing in gender and sexualities through qualitative research on radical birth work as reproductive justice, maternal sexuality and embodiment, and experiences related to work and mobility among queer, trans, and gender-nonconforming people in Portland, Oregon. Her work is grounded in feminist epistemology and reflects her lived experience as a queer mother of a gender-expansive teen. She draws on more than a decade of professional experience in academia, teaching sociology courses and conducting social science research.

JaDee trained as a psilocybin facilitator with InnerTrek in 2024, and is working to bridge these areas of expertise with a forthcoming study on the potential impact of psilocybin-assisted therapy on individual perceptions of gender and sexuality. They believe that with the right support, psilocybin-assisted therapy may be gender-affirming, i.e., to increase feelings of self-acceptance, gender euphoria, authenticity, and freedom of self-expression. JaDee’s work is in service to collective liberation and centers knowledge from marginalized communities.
