PAT for Consumers
Consumer-focused resources to address mental health

Your mental health is important. Our programs are designed to educate and empower you, the potential consumer of psilocybin, to reach your mental health goals. To do so, we provide all of our consumer-focused resources for free.
PATA believes that the more knowledge you have around psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT), the more empowered you will be to decide if it’s the right thing for you. As the business of psilocybin grows, each person may be left to parse through an expanding lot of information presented by various players in the psilocybin world that may or may not have your best interest at heart. You are our primary focus, and we seek to include everyone in learning about the potential benefits of PAT.
Our consumer-focused resources listed below are here to help you start sorting out what your options are. In our mental health-oriented organization we believe that, to achieve the best outcomes with a mental health improvement goal, a licensed mental health professional (LMHP) should be involved in your mental health pre-experience preparation and post-experience integration.

"[Therapists] are behind in terms of understanding their role in helping bring psychedelics safely to the public. We need to get past our aversion to risk and embrace our role in doing the research and assessments to create the treatments.

The PATA Model

Clinical trials have demonstrated significant positive outcomes for Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy (PAT), but the format of these trials is often inaccessible to most people. The presence of Licensed Mental Health Professionals (LMHPs) during administration sessions, which is essential in clinical trials, remains largely illegal outside of the trial setting and impractical in the real world. While some LMHPs in Oregon are seeking dual licensure as psilocybin facilitators, this dual licensure is likely to remain rare in the long run. Because our goal is to address the national mental health crisis, we at PATA believe that there are far more viable options than seeking to license therapists also as psilocybin facilitators.
Psychedelic Professionals (PsPs) can offer support and guidance during your psychedelic experiences, and by design they do not need to be LMHPs. They are trained specifically to guide the seeker through the psilocybin journey. If seeking healing or treatment for a mental health concern, it is important to note that facilitators may not possess the same level of training and expertise to address mental health issues as LMHPs. In fact, they are prohibited from providing mental or medical health treatment during psilocybin administration in Oregon.
Our model bridges the gap between the world of therapy and of psilocybin administration by creating a team approach led by you, and using the talents of both LMHPs and PsPs to reach your mental health goals. See our page “Using a therapist or not” for more information on different ways to pursue supported use of psilocybin for mental health.
